You’ll learn how to photograph people in public places in a non-threatening yet effective way. All of these while the iconic Lincoln, Korean and Vietnam memorials serve as the perfect backdrop for this class.
Site-specific Street Photography
Capacity: Min. 12/ Max. 20
This is a four-to- six hour on a location workshop. This is a product best suited for camera clubs or other groups and it usually accompanied by a slide show presentation on the same day or on the previous day. You, or your club members or administrators, choose the location of the workshop. The slide show presentation aims to familiarize the audiences with the thinking process and M.O. of photojournalists. During the workshop itself the participants learn how to react and adapt to the ever-changing environment of an outdoor public settings such as a street, park, etc. This is a practical way of learning how to make photos when it matters the most: when things are happening right in front of you in a live scenario. During this workshop we discuss composition, quality of light, layering, points of entry, natural framing, points of escape and decisive moments. You’ll learn how to photograph people in public places and how to do it in a non- invasive yet effective way.
Creating Sophisticated Images
Capacity: Minimum of 12/ No max
This is a classroom-style workshop with a duration of four hours. Taking part on this workshop will improve your composition skills, and overall image-content quality. We’ll discuss composition, layering, points of entry, points of escape, the use of negative a.k.a. as equivocal space and positive space. As well as learning the why and how the brain processes and catalogs visual information and how to use this knowledge in order to create more interesting or sophisticated photos.
Portrait Photography and the Art of Light Appreciation and Application
Capacity: Min 8/ Max 16
A good portrait captures a bit of the essence of the subject being photographed and it makes the viewer stop and pay attention to your image. Either by its content, composition or lighting and/ or by the environment that surrounds the subject. This class can be held either on- location, or in a classroom or studio. You’ll learn to identify the most aesthetically- pleasing ways of positioning your subject(s) within an environment. As well as recognizing when to use natural versus artificial light. We’ll also discuss sources of light and quality of light as well as composition and the Fibonacci Sequence, spirals and the golden mean and its application to composition.
DESTINATION PHOTO WORKSHOPS

Cuenca, Ecuador/ Corpus Christi Festival June 15- 24, 2017:
This one of a kind photographic adventure focuses on photographing the colonial city of Cuenca, Ecuador’s most laid back and colorful city in in the country, and the 460- year old Corpus Christi Festival. It includes visits to local artists, a half-day trip to Cajas Parque Nacional. And plenty of opportunities to photograph other activities such as open- air markets, fireworks, flying lanterns and the street vendors that come from all over Ecuador to take part in the festival.

Panama: A Journey of Discovery
During this photo adventure, we will explore and photograph many of Panama’s iconic sights such as the Panama Canal area and El Casco Viejo, the city center where the architecture has strong French architecture influences reminiscent those found in New Orleans. Photograph Panama’s majestic ever- growing skyline. Visit the Embera indigenous tribe that resides along Panama Canal waterways. And visit the backcountry of Panama and enjoy patron saint celebrations in the Peninsula de Azuero.
Instruction will cover quality of light, light origination angles and their effects on the resulting images, proper exposure and metering for specific results, and we will discuss and practice the different kind shooting modes. While in the field, we will discuss perspective, composition, and techniques such as panning, freezing, motion blurs, and the ways to predict action and how best to capture those moments.
